Takata Airbag Inflator Recall
Dear Owners,
Safety has been, and always will be, the driving force within every Subaru - from engineering to real-world results. It is one of the reasons you and your family have put trust in our brand, and we want to assure you that you have made the right choice. To stay true to our values, we are informing our owners of the Takata supplied airbag inflator recall - the largest recall in automotive history, currently affecting vehicles across the industry - and how your Subaru may be impacted.
This recall only relates to the passenger-side front airbag in certain Subaru vehicles, and does not affect our driver-side front airbags, which were not equipped with a Takata inflator. Therefore, if your vehicle requires a recall service, we recommend that occupants not use the front-passenger seat until the repair is performed.
To see if your vehicle has an open recall, use the VIN Search Tool. We encourage you to re-check every three months for updates. You can learn more about this recall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration by clicking the link below.
Our Resolve
Subaru is committed to keeping our extended family of owners safe and informed. We will continue correcting this airbag issue until all affected Subaru vehicles are repaired. This includes:
- Notifying owners with open recalls to schedule a repair service at their local retailer, at no cost
- Working with all available airbag manufacturers to increase the supply of proper replacements for timely repairs
This recall will affect millions of vehicles worldwide from various manufacturers, including Subaru. This means that the availability of replacement airbags, and service space at our stores, may be affected. Everyone's safety is equally important to us, and we are taking every measure to meet this challenge.
We will continue updating the status of this recall while encouraging our owners to take action. If you have any questions, please contact your Subaru retailer or our National Customer Contact Center by phone at 1-800-SUBARU3 (1-800-782-2783) or via email from the Contact Us section of the "Customer Support" page. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work toward a solution to protect our most important vehicle component - you.
Sincerely,
Subaru of America, Inc.

Vehicle Recall Expansion as of July 2016:Â This recall expansion affects model years noted in the below map. These vehicles are prioritized in areas of high heat and humidity, due to a NHTSA announcement that Takata airbags will experience degradation based on time, temperature and humidity.
NHTSA's zone segmentation dictates the order in which model years are recalled:
ZONE A:Â Includes Texas and other states and U.S. territories with high temperature cycling and humidity. Time in service until significant degradation may occur is projected at between 6-9 years.
ZONE B:Â Includes states with moderate temperature cycling and humidity. Time in service until significant degradation may occur is projected at between 10-15 years.
ZONE C:Â Includes states with lower temperature cycling and humidity. Time in service until significant degradation may occur is projected at between 15-20 years.
